HOW TO WIND YOUR OMEGA WATCH?

With watches being treated increasingly like assets due to their ability to hold and even gain money, it has definitely become a topic of interest for many watch enthusiasts. And when talking about how much an Omega is worth, there are two sides to this equation, what it retails for and what it sells for on the secondary market. Because these are two different things, one is what Omega believes they’re watches are worth and the other is what the general public believe it is worth. However, like with all of these analyses, they are only relevant at a certain point in time, perhaps next year Omega will increase retail prices or lower production causing secondary prices to increase. That said, today we will take a look at how much an Omega watch is worth in 2024.

OMEGA's best-known collection

To start, probably the most well-known line of all the Omega collections would be the Seamaster, with there being a few icons within the collection, it seems like a good place to start. The Omega Seamaster 300M is a diver watch that many people not only aspire to have but also have in their collection. It’s a fantastic watch and arguably one of the best-looking dive watches there are on the market. This watch, again in 2024, retails for around 6,000 USD and depending on condition, it sells for around 5,000 on the secondary market. Remember, this is assuming you buy it on the bracelet, if you choose to just buy it on a rubber strap or nato strap that will make the watch cheaper by a few hundred dollars. As with all the watches we will take a look at, the other big factor is materials, a steel model will be cheaper than a two-tone, or solid gold, or ceramic version as well.

Staying in the same Seamaster family, the Omega Aqua Terra can be bought for around 6,300 USD from an AD or purchased from 5,200 USD on the secondary market. This watch has many different polished finishings and requires a lot of skilled artisans to build the stunning watch. Hence both new or second-hand, it is still quite expensive, with there being so many different dial colour options out there it’s also a great model to choose as you can really have a lot of fun with it.

Probably the watch that got Omega’s name out there to every family world-wide, the forever famous Moonwatch. Being able to say your watch has gone to the moon many times is really quite impressive so it is only natural to have so many people lusting after this timepiece from Omega. Depending on if you choose the sapphire or hesalite crystal, you would be looking at paying around 8,000 USD at retail or 18,100 USD for the brand new two-tone pieces. Respectively, each one is sold for around 6,400 USD and 16,000 USD on the secondary market. Whilst all these prices indicate that Omega’s do not hold their value as well as maybe a Rolex, they are a different brand altogether and because there are so many to purchase it keeps Omega’s prices very competitive.

Omega tries to make sure they can supply all the demand for their watches meaning few will gain more in value on the secondary market, but there is one model that does and that’s the Omega Snoopy Speedmaster as it is a limited-edition model. With the cartoon character moving across the back of the case on a rocket ship as the time goes by, Omega spared no details when creating this watch, and with its blue colour scheme it makes it a very attractive piece to many collectors. Due to so few individuals being lucky enough to be offered the opportunity to purchase this watch, its secondary market prices are quite a bit higher than its retail prices. From an AD, the Snoopy Moonwatch retails for 10,600 USD for both the blue and white version, but if you were to purchase this from the secondary market you would be looking at roughly 17,200 USD for blue and 44,600 USD for the white version.

Finally, if we briefly look at the Constellation collection, a very elegant and Gerald Genta inspired design, these watches are beautiful and often come with diamonds on the dial, and in two-tone to really enhance the elegance of the watch. At retail they would set you back around 9,000 and on the grey market you would expect to pay somewhere around the 7,000 USD mark for a used one. The main thing you will have noticed about all of Omega’s watches is that whilst many of them lose value, it’s only a little bit and then it holds it at that value. This means that whilst many Omega’s will not see you earn a profit, it means you can own a luxury watch from Omega for many years and if you sold it, it would only have cost you a few hundred dollars over the years to wear it.

And there you have it, now you know how much many of Omega’s watches are worth and you can decide whether buying new or used is the best option for yourself. A great thing with Omega is that almost all their watches come on a metal bracelet but can fit a ZEALANDE rubber strap. If you are looking to make your Omega watch transform from dressy to sporty then ZEALANDE can definitely help you out. ZEALANDE creates watch straps with the same ethos as Omega creates watches, ultra high-quality rubber straps designed to elevate the elegance of your Omega.
