TUDOR’S NEW BLACK BAY 58 IN RED
Now, before everyone uses the word “new” dial colour to describe the recently released BB58 with the red dial we need to jump back in time by a few years. Back in the early 1990s Tudor released a prototype Submariner which never made it to the market but they had got it ready. It’s really nice to see that some 30 years later it finally did in the form of the BB58 which aims to pay the closest tribute to the original Tudor Submariner. The shade of red is a beautiful rich cherry red with a matching red aluminium bezel. Unlike the blue and black dials which are both matte, this one is sunburnt and it really pops in a great way. They’ve made a stunning dial colour that celebrates a past creation that never made it to the boutique, a fantastic little bit of extra heritage to this model!
Arguably the biggest new update to the Black Bay 58 is finally the inclusion of Tudors fantastic T-fit clasp. And this really shouldn’t come as a big surprise as they included it on the BB58 GMT Coke they released last year. This means you now have 5 mm of adjustability on the fly. All you have to do is simply pull up on the last link attached to the clasp and slide it to your desired length then push the link back down to lock it into place. The other great feature is the choice of bracelet, currently this new red dial version is the only one to have the 5-like jubilee style bracelet as an option.
Which is nice because those who perhaps have other iconic dive watches in their collection, having it on the 5 link bracelet helps differentiate it massively. The polished centre links also help give the BB58 a more dressy look too. For those that want the sporty tool watch look then their Rubber strap on the T-fit clasp is a great choice too. The only shame about it is if you buy it on the three or 5 link bracelet and think you can just buy the rubber strap and reuse the clasp, you would be mistaken. The clasp on the rubber strap is ever so slightly thinner so you need to buy the clasp in addition to the strap.

The case is marginally thinner, whilst it’s nice to have it, there really isn’t much in it between the regular BB58 and this new red dial version. However, it’s what’s inside the case that is, it’s Tudors new movement that has revived the METAS certification. If it didn’t already have enough selling points, this has just been added to the long list of great reasons why the BB58 is an incredible watch. This could easily be your only watch in terms of both design and performance. Its design has looked incredible since its first introduction some 30 years ago, and it will always continue to look this good. With its new upgraded movement, it'll keep ticking for as long as you and your family own it.

Each year as we see a new Watches and Wonders, it seems to be a common trend that whilst all the other brands release great new pieces too, it is Tudor that steals the show. The Black Bay 58 has been their flagship model for quite some time and other than an introduction of a blue dial version in 2020, they haven’t really touched the line. This red variant is the perfect new addition and it completes the colour palette for the vast majority of people out there. We can only imagine how this line will evolve over the next few years but one thing is for certain, if Tudor keeps refining their models like this the brand will only continue to grow and enjoy more success over the years.
