The current 42mm stainless-steel models return to the dimensions of the original Planet Ocean while being slimmer and flatter than previous generations. Colour is one of the areas where the Planet Ocean really stands apart especially with the bezels. Current models are available with black, blue or orange ceramic bezels, giving you a choice between understated, versatile and highly distinctive. Black is arguably the most adaptable, while blue offers a little more personality without becoming difficult to wear. Orange is the option for someone who wants their watch to make a statement and embraces the Planet Ocean's connection with serious diving equipment.

The Planet Ocean also offers a range of bracelet and strap configurations. Stainless steel provides the traditional professional-diver appearance, however with the newest ones featuring polished centre links this means you can definitely wear the watch with more formal outfits. On the other hand, the rubber strap options make the watch feel more contemporary and sport-focused. The collection is therefore considerably broader than the standard three-hand Planet Ocean might initially suggest.

It has the strongest combination of history, recognisability and everyday versatility. It feels sporty without being excessively technical, and its 42mm case gives it excellent wrist presence. It is also the watch that most people will immediately recognise as an Omega Seamaster.

The Aqua Terra is the better choice if your lifestyle is more varied. If you regularly wear tailored clothing but also want a watch that can accompany you on holiday, at the weekend or during more casual occasions, its clean design gives it an advantage. It is less obviously a dive watch and therefore works particularly well for someone who wants one luxury watch capable of covering almost every situation. It is arguably the most understated of the three, but that is precisely what makes it so appealing.

The Planet Ocean, meanwhile, is for the person who wants their watch to feel like a serious piece of equipment. It has more presence, more technical character and a more purposeful design. If you like larger sports watches, appreciate diving heritage and want something that feels substantial on the wrist, the Planet Ocean is difficult to ignore. It is also the most appropriate choice for someone who is attracted to the engineering side of mechanical watches and wants a timepiece that looks every bit as capable as it is.

There is, however, one criticism that can apply to all three collections, and that’s Omega's stainless-steel bracelets can feel substantial. That weight contributes to the premium feel of the watches, but it is not necessarily ideal for everyone as an everyday wearing experience. After several hours on the wrist, particularly during warmer weather or when travelling, a heavy metal bracelet can become less comfortable than it initially felt in the boutique.
